Asked and answered

The questions that come before the decision.

  • What is KRONENWERK?

KRONENWERK is invoicing, accounting and financial-operations software for businesses in Canada, the United States, Germany, France, Belgium and Poland. One account holds estimates, invoices, expenses, bills, payments, the general ledger and the reports — with each country's rules in a country module of its own rather than scattered through special cases.

  • Who is KRONENWERK for?

Small and mid-sized businesses, and accounting practices. A sole trader or small firm keeps complete books on the cheapest plan; a growing business adds a team, approvals and automation; a group runs several separately subscribed companies side by side. Practices have a product of their own, with a client portfolio and document requests.

  • Which countries does KRONENWERK cover?

Six countries have a country module of their own: Canada, the United States, Germany, France, Belgium and Poland. What each module actually does differs, and each country page says so. No subscription is sold to businesses registered in Poland today, because a mandatory Polish invoice cannot come into existence without a KSeF connection.

  • Which languages is KRONENWERK available in?

Five: German, English, French, Dutch and Polish. Language and country are separate. Reading in French says nothing about which law a business is under — a Belgian and a Canadian company read the same words over different tax rules.

  • What does KRONENWERK cost?

There are four business plans — Starter, Business, Scale and Enterprise — and a separate plan for accounting practices. The current amounts are on the pricing page, in the currency and for the country you select there; they are deliberately not copied here, so that no sentence on this page can disagree with what the checkout charges.

  • Does each company need its own subscription?

Yes. One subscription covers one company. Each additional company is another subscription — at a reduced rate for qualifying companies of the same owner, shown on the pricing page. What the higher plans sell is not the second company but the machinery for running several side by side: the switcher, the cross-company command centre, shared administration of people and rights.

  • Can I manage several companies from one account?

Yes, from the Scale plan upwards. Up to five separately subscribed companies can be operated together there, and up to fifteen on Enterprise. Each company keeps its own books, its own country and its own currency; there is deliberately no figure anywhere that adds two companies together.

  • Does KRONENWERK support XRechnung and ZUGFeRD?

Yes, for businesses on the German country module. KRONENWERK generates ZUGFeRD in the EN 16931 profile — a PDF/A-3 with embedded CII XML — and XRechnung 3.0.2 as plain CII XML for public-sector customers, validates both against the rules that apply to each, and reads incoming e-invoices in CII as well as UBL. Submitting the XRechnung is done by you, at your customer's invoice portal: KRONENWERK does not transmit to any government portal.

  • Does KRONENWERK send invoices over Peppol?

No. KRONENWERK writes and validates UBL in the shape Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 requires, but there is no access point: the file is produced here and sent through a Peppol access point of your choosing. A country module declares national delivery only where a transport is genuinely configured on that installation.

  • Does KRONENWERK support KSeF?

No. KRONENWERK neither submits invoices to Poland's KSeF nor retrieves any from it. Because a Polish invoice only comes into existence when KSeF accepts it, no subscription is sold to businesses registered in Poland; the server refuses the purchase rather than take money for something that cannot discharge the invoicing duty.

  • Is there an API, webhooks and a way for AI agents to connect?

Yes, all three — on the Enterprise plan and on the practice plan. There are keys with per-resource scopes, a documented interface with idempotency and named errors, signed and retried webhooks published from the real business events, and an MCP endpoint through which an AI agent reads, drafts and — where the company allows it — acts up to a limit the company sets, under those same rights. The developer documentation covers each in turn.

  • What is the difference between Starter, Business, Scale, Enterprise and the practice plan?

Starter is complete accounting for one person: the same ledger, the same validation and the same statutory reports as the plans above it. Business adds the operation — several users, multi-currency, recurring invoices, reminders, automation, workflows and approvals. Scale runs several separately subscribed companies side by side, with the switcher, the command centre and fine-grained rights. Enterprise adds the platform: API, webhooks and the integrations directory. The practice plan is not a larger business plan; it is a different product for a different buyer.

  • Can accounting practices work with KRONENWERK?

Yes. The practice plan gives one screen across every client the practice is authorised to reach — receivables, payables, what is overdue, last activity, the assigned practice member, open requests — and a click into any of them. Each client stays a business of its own with its own books and its own owner; the engagement is granted by the client and can be ended by the client without the practice's agreement.

  • Can I do my accounting with Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. KRONENWERK runs an MCP server that Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants connect to. The assistant reads customers, invoices, transactions and reports, records supplier bills and receipts, drafts invoices and quotes and files documents — as drafts a person approves. If the company allows it under Settings → AI agent (MCP), it may also issue, send and record payments up to an amount limit the company sets; every act is on the record. The MCP server is part of the Enterprise plan and the practice plan.

  • How do I connect Claude to KRONENWERK?

In Claude, add a connector with the address https://kronenwerk.org/api/extern/mcp, then sign in to KRONENWERK and confirm the access once. There is no key to copy: sign-in runs over OAuth, and the connection is bound to exactly the company whose owner confirmed it. Under Settings → Integrations you see every connection and end it with one click; how far an assistant may go is set under Settings → AI agent (MCP). The step-by-step guide is under “Accounting with AI”.

  • How much work is it to switch from my accountant or from other software?

An afternoon, once the exports are in hand. The Migration Center reads CSV and XLSX files — including QuickBooks' zip exports — and takes over customers, suppliers, sales invoices, credit notes, bills, expenses, payments, documents, the chart of accounts and the opening balance. You map the columns, see the totals before anything is written, and only your approval of exactly that state writes anything into the books; until something has been touched, the whole import can be reversed. The Migration Center is included from the Business plan, a basic import in every plan. Your accountant stays if you want them to: you invite them, and you end the engagement.

  • What is a transaction, and why does everything for one job live in one place?

A transaction is the folder around one job: the customer, the stage, the due date, the quote, the invoice, the supplier bills, receipts, drawings, freight papers, photographs, notes and the history — all under one number you can say on the telephone. The records stay where they are posted; the transaction only points at them and carries no amount itself, so the books remain the only truth about the money. Transactions are in every plan; responsible persons and your own stages from Business.

  • Does KRONENWERK work for a business in Montreal or Québec?

Yes. A Québec invoice carries GST and QST as two separate lines with both registration numbers, in Canadian French or English, in Canadian dollars or any other currency. The two lines are entered in the web form, over the API and through the AI assistant alike. The tax rate is yours to determine: KRONENWERK computes with the rate you enter and checks the number that has to stand beside it. No tax return and no filing with the CRA or Revenu Québec — invoices, receipts, books and reports.

  • What can an AI assistant not do in my books?

No tool cancels or corrects an issued document, approves or pays a supplier bill, posts a journal entry, closes a period or changes keys and settings — at any level. By default an assistant only reads and drafts; issuing, sending and recording payments become possible only when the company allows it, and then up to its amount limit. A connection sees exactly one company, every act is on the record, and the connection ends on request with the next call.

  • Can my accountant keep working with me?

Yes. You invite the practice into your company; with the practice plan it sees every client it is engaged for on one screen and steps into any of them. Your company stays your company — its own books, its own owner — and you end the engagement, not the practice. What the accountant used to reconstruct from your paperwork is already in the books, with the files on the record they belong to.
